How I Built This

Data pipeline: Crash records queried from Chicago’s Socrata API (dataset 85ca-t3if), paginated at 50,000 records per call. 96,412 records for 2024. Coordinates are native WGS84.
Region assignment: Chicago is divided into 10 geographic regions (Loop, North Side, South Side, etc.) using lat/lon bounding boxes. Crashes outside defined boundaries are excluded.
Behavioral flags: Hit-and-run from hit_and_run_i field (Y/N). Impairment from "UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL/DRUGS" contributing cause. Speed from "FAILING TO REDUCE SPEED TO AVOID CRASH." Pedestrian/cyclist from first_crash_type field.
