How I Built This

Data pipeline: Crash records queried from Detroit Open Data ArcGIS FeatureServer (one layer per year), paginated at 2,000 records per call. 23,560 records for 2024. Coordinates are native WGS84.
Region assignment: Detroit data has no built-in neighborhood field. Regions are assigned from crash coordinates using bounding boxes covering Downtown, Midtown, Southwest, East Side, West Side, Northeast, Northwest, and Downriver areas.
Behavioral flags: Pre-computed boolean flags for alcohol, drugs, speeding, hit-and-run, pedestrian, bicycle, distracted driving, and red light violations. Injury severity uses KABCO breakdown (fatal, suspected serious, suspected minor, possible).
